William J. Bowman Sr., 76, of Quakake, passed away Tuesday at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Irene (Hegyes) Bowman.
Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War on the USS Dodge County as a Gunner’s Mate.
He was a devoted member of St. Michael’s B.C. Church, McAdoo and a graduate of Hazleton High School, class of 1965.
Prior to retiring, he was employed at Jeddo Highland Coal Company for over 46 years.
A classic car enthusiast, and especially fond of Chevys, Bill was a member of the Anthracite Automobile Club of America. He was past president of Tamaqua Street Machines and organized car cruises to benefit the American Cancer Society.
He was also a member of the Hometown Vol. Fire Co. Bill enjoyed many days walking the flea markets looking for a good find and made many friends over the years. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving, are his wife of 55 years Susan (Sell) Bowman; sons William J. Bowman Jr. and wife Angela, of Tamaqua; and Robert Bowman and companion Mara McLaughlin, of Lattimer; grandchildren William III, Brittany and fiancé William Cavanaugh, Juliana, and Tucker Bowman.
His funeral will be held Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. from the Damiano Funeral Home Inc., Blaine and Cleveland Sts., McAdoo. The Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Michael’s B.C. Church, McAdoo, at 10:30 a.m. by Rev. Gregory Hosler. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family
A calling hour will be held Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
