Robert J. Hinkle Sr., 91, of Weatherly, passed away Wednesday evening at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Weatherly, he was the son of the Late Robert Lee and Theresa Frances (Romanchik) Hinkle.
Robert was a member of Church of All Saints, McAdoo. He was a graduate of Weatherly High School, class of 1952 and a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army.
Robert was first employed at the Lehigh Valley Railroad and then retiring after 45 years as the proprietor of Pence’s Variety Store, Hazleton.
Robert was a member of the Men of Malvern for over 60 years, the Hazleton American Legion Post 76, and the Dream Mile Club, Blakeslee. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially the art of fly-fishing. Robert loved the joy of traveling with his family and friends and made wonderful memories over the years.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Anna Mae (Thomas) Hinkle; son, Forrest Lee ‘Rusty’ Hinkle; brothers, Edward Lee and William Frank Hinkle; sisters, Ruth Postupack, Evelyn Theresa Sheer, Helen Jane Burke, and Frances Elizabeth Harahush.
Surviving are his daughter, Leanne O’Connell and husband Timothy of Schwenksville; son, Robert J. Hinkle Jr. and wife Donna of Weatherly; grandchildren, Christine (Rezabek) Ramos and husband Jose, Blake Rezabek and wife Katrina, Jared Hinkle and wife Liza, Kevin Hinkle and wife Emma, Robert Hinkle III and wife Reagan, Anna Mae (Hinkle) Aldredge and husband Thomas, Brian Hinkle and Rebecca Hinkle; great-grandchildren, Sofia, Eleanor, Lorelei, Clement and Diana; brother, John Hinkle and wife Dorothy of Weatherly; sister-in-law, Letha Hinkle of Tamaqua; cousin, Barbara Young; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, November 5. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Weatherly, with Rev. Msgr. Edward Zemanik as the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery, McAdoo.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Damiano Funeral Home Inc., McAdoo.
