Nicholas P. Nester, 83, of McAdoo, passed away Thursday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.
Born in McAdoo, he was the son of the late Peter and Stella (Laganoski) Nester.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, McAdoo.
Nicholas was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was awarded numerous medals for his time of service including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Navy Achievement Medal and Combat. He retired from the Marine Corp. as a Chief Warrant Officer – 3, after 22 years of service.
Nicholas was a member of the Marine Corp. League Devil Dogs, McAdoo V.F.W. Post 6708 and their Firing Squad. Nicholas was an active supporter of the local ‘Toys for Tots’ program.
Preceding him in death, are his brother Russell Nester, and sisters Irene Fuehrer, Margaret Parsons and Alice Herring.
Surviving are his brother David Nester and wife Linda of McAdoo; sister Loretta Kotsko of McAdoo; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will begin Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Damiano Funeral Home Inc., McAdoo. Rev. Roman Oliinyk will celebrate the Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, McAdoo. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s U.C. Cemetery, Hazleton.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
