Mary Zapotosky Obituary

Mary F. Zapotosky passed away unexpectedly on Christmas night.  She was 60 years old.  Mary loved having her children and grandchildren visit her, so much so, that some never left.  She was a very strong advocate for her children.  Even when they did wrong, she still took their side, unrelentingly.  She loved blueberry picking and making pies, deep sea fishing and going to New York with her companion, Tim, with whom she shared her life with for 21 years.  She was also a collector of all things, so if you’re needing a part from a vacuum from 1985 chances are we have it. She also loved going for walks, doing crosswords, watching hallmark movies and sitting by the campfire with her children and grandchildren. She was a helper.  If someone was in need, she never hesitated to lend a hand. She made every holiday special for everyone and made everything fun. She was a Mother who would play hide and seek, play on the floor and at times make you feel like you were the most special little kid in all the land.

Mary was a strong believer in natural remedies: laying on a hot onion for an ear infection, tea bags for puffy eyes.  The only medicine she truly believed in was Vicks Vapor Rub. To her, that had the medicinal value to cure anything.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Joseph Zavitsky and her brother John Zavitsky. She is survived by her children Star Joyce and husband John, and Jason, Vanessa, Brittany, Tyler and Ashley and a handful of adoring grandchildren; her sisters Joan Pfaff (Dave), Rosemary Gans (Edward), Margie Paranac (Don), Linda Luchetta (Joey) and Cecilia Zavitsky; her brothers Joseph (Mary), James (Debbie), Edward (Joanne) and Richard (Cheryl).  She also had 22 nieces and nephews who often referred to her as the fun aunt and would spend their teen year summers in her home in Philadelphia with her.

In lieu of flowers, donations or anything tangible, the family is asking that if you have a loved one who is struggling with alcoholism to please be patient, loving and show as much forgiving grace as you can.

We wish we had shown more grace with our dear Mother.

The Damiano Funeral Home, McAdoo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
