Louis M. D’Angelo, 79, of McAdoo, passed away Wednesday morning at Wilkes-Barre VA medical Center.
Born in Flushing, NY, he was the son of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Brewery) D’Angelo.
Louie was a 1962 McAdoo High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam Era.
He attended a professional baseball camp and became a scout for the N.Y. Dodgers. Louie played baseball in the local league for the McAdoo Comets.
Prior to retiring, he was a Union Rep at General Foam, and an insurance salesman for Metropolitan and Home Life. He also retained his Real Estate license.
Louie was a promoter for youth sports in his community. He coached Babe Ruth and started the minor league division in Little League. He also fought and succeeded to allow girls to play in Little League.
Louie was President of the McAdoo Athletic Club. He ran evening swimming at McAdoo-Kelayres Elem. for children and adults. He also began the basketball league at the McAdoo courts.
Louie, known as Coach Lou to many, was instrumental in starting, managing, and coaching girls’ softball which included fundraising for field trips to Hershey Park and Wildwood, NJ, a trip that became an annual tradition.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Mary Carolyn Luisi.
Surviving, are his wife of 55 years, Noreen (Kleckner) D’Angelo; daughters Tracey Zeiler and husband Robert, McAdoo; Wendy Brogan, McAdoo; and Karey Deeb and husband Jason, Kelayres; grandchildren, Cory, Dylan, and Jordan Brogan; Maggie Zeiler; and Thayden and Jackson Deeb; brother, Michael D’Angelo, McAdoo; sister, Barbara Winkler, McAdoo; and nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Damiano Funeral Home Inc., McAdoo.
