Lorraine M. Caperton, 67, of McAdoo, passed away Sunday morning at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Schott) Balas Sr. and a devoted member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, McAdoo.
Lorraine was a graduate of Hazleton High School, class of 1977 and a graduate of Luzerne County Community College.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at the Hazleton YMCA in childcare and development and also the after-school program.
Lorraine cherished polka music, loved tending to her garden, and had a special fondness for cats. She was also a fantastic and gifted baker.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Powell; sons, Bruce and Brett Caperton; brother, Joseph Balas and wife, Mary Jane of St. Clair; sister, Melanie Cisco of Florida; sister, Mary Ellen Anderson and husband, Michael of McAdoo; sister, Emily Balas of McAdoo; brother, Michael Balas and wife, Maureen of Drums; sister, Cynthia Greco and husband, Frank of Hazle Twp; and an aunt and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, beginning at 9:30 a.m. from the Damiano Funeral Home Inc., McAdoo. The Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s B.C. Church, McAdoo. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
