Eugene R. Sobolewski, 74, of Barnesville, passed away Tuesday afternoon at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Hazleton, Gene was the son of the late Eugene J. and Florence (Gallagher) Sobolewski.
He was a member of Church of All Saints, McAdoo, and a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Gene was a co-founder of McAdoo Machine Co., Kelayres.
While in the Navy, Gene served on the USS Boxer, and over the years, he participated in annual reunions for those who served.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapshooting. His most enjoyment came from helping to raise his grandchildren, family was everything to him. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who will be greatly missed.
Preceding him in death, are twin infant grandchildren, Aiden and Austin Sobolewski; brothers Frank and Michael Sobolewski; and sister Mary Ann Kripp.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Victoria (Cherko) Sobolewski; daughter Jessica Jacobs and husband Brian of Kelayres; sons Matthew Sobolewski and wife Christine of Barnesville; and Douglas Sobolewski of Barnesville; grandchildren Christian Parsons, Kendra and Travis Sobolewski, and Annabelle, Adeline and Declan Sobolewski; sister Catherine Lizbinski and husband Chester of Drums; and brothers David Sobolewski and wife Janet of Drums; and Craig Sobolewski and wife Melanie of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Damiano Funeral Home Inc., McAdoo. Rev. Msgr. William Baker will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Church of All Saints, McAdoo. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Assumption R.C. Cemetery, McAdoo.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
