Eleanor S. Balas, 93, of McAdoo, passed away Sunday evening at her home.
Born in McAdoo, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Bruley) Schott.
Eleanor was a dedicated parishioner of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, McAdoo. She was a longtime member of the Sodality and Rosary Society, and pirohi maker for the parish.
Eleanor enjoyed polka dancing and listening to polka music. Her true passion was caring for her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Joseph Balas, Sr; sisters, Veronica Schott and Mary Rajnic; and brothers, John and Emil Schott.
Surviving are her children, Joseph Balas, Jr. and wife Mary Jane, of St. Clair; Lorraine Caperton, of McAdoo; Melanie Cisco, of Florida; Mary Ellen Anderson and husband Michael, of McAdoo; Emily Balas, of McAdoo; Michael Balas and wife Maureen, of Drums; and Cynthia Greco and husband Frank, of Hazle Twp; grandchildren, Bruce, Brett, Bonnie, Kyle, Andy, Renee, Tanya, Michael, Todd and Justin; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Hladish, of Woodlyn; and nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. from the Damiano Funeral Home Inc., McAdoo. Rev. Gregory Hosler will celebrate the Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s B.C. Church, McAdoo at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
