Edward T. Burgess, 78, of Kline Twp., entered into the promise of eternal rest suddenly Thursday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.
Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Susan (Sherkness) Burgess.
He was a member of the Harvest Bible Church, Conyngham.
Prior to retiring, Edward was first employed as a garment cutter at McAdoo Manufacturing and Miss Toni Dress, Hazleton, then as a cutting room Supervisor at Pro Knit, Valmont. He was last employed at Hershey Chocolate, USA.
Edward was an avid bowler, and enjoyed archery hunting and taking masonry classes at the Hazleton Career Center. Since retirement, bimonthly, he helped bring Bible study lessons to the residents at St. Luke Pavilion.
Ed and his wife Arlene enjoyed traveling together in their younger years to places in the USA, such as, Sedona, Las Vegas, California, Branson, Nashville, Florida and Hawaii, and overseas to England, Scotland, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and even Australia.
In his younger days, Ed raised Boxers and had a great love for all animals. Later in life, Ed was most relaxed at home with his two beloved felines, Rufus and Noah. Rufus followed him around like a puppy dog.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were sisters Marion Sacco, Barbara Myers, and Dolores Kessler; and nephew Matthew Kessler.
Surviving, are his wife of 53 years, Arlene (Butala) Burgess; brother Thomas Burgess and wife Nancy, Beaver Meadows; sister Theresa Rosati, Port Orange, FL; sister-in-law Justine Butala Rush, Tresckow; friend George Matyas, Hazleton; nieces and nephews Joseph Rush and wife Geriann, Jeffrey Rush and wife Amy, Sophia Rush, Michael Rosati and wife Kathy, Robert Rosati and wife Janet, Jeffrey Rosati and wife Ann, Fred Rosati and wife Brenda, Margaret Ann Rosati-Ahlawalia and husband Hirsh, Susan Sacco, Tony Jo Sacco and wife Sherry, Doris Kessler and husband Lester Bruno, James Kessler and wife Tanya, Eric Kessler and wife Samantha, Patricia Payne and husband Jeff, Nannette Houser and husband Leif, Dan Myers and wife Lynn, Vince Myers and wife Lisa, Gregory Myers and wife Paula, Stephen Myers and wife Tina; and great nieces and great nephews also survive.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at the Damiano Funeral Home, Blaine and Cleveland Sts., McAdoo. Pastor Jeffrey Butala will conduct the service at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s B.C. Cemetery, McAdoo.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
